Why do they have to pack toothpicks individually in plastic so people go and drop them in the toaster and when someone comes and uses the toaster they get to eat rye bread that tastes like burnt plastic? Not delicious, I  tell ya.

hnh.

Like it wasn't enough that the toothpicks are wrapped in plastic in the first place!

Like CD's.
I've thought about selling my cd's. Well, most of them - I'll keep the ones I'm most attached to. The thing is, I hardly listen to cd's anymore because the computer is so much easier. The major part of the music is there already. And I can do without the plastic case quite well.

I'll list the ones I'll sell (at a very reasonable price I'm sure) and then you can say if there's something that interests you. Then we'll agree on the price.
Please be interested! I just want them gone.

And - of course - all suggestions of trading will be considered! For example, you get a cd, I get something nice and shiny :)
Or a book.
Ooo, or a shiny book! Can I get a shiny book?

(...Come to think of that, I think there might be some books I'd like to get rid of, too.)

Actually, I can write a wishlist! I'll have to think about it for a while though.

And the CD's are

here. )

Edit.
The popularity toook me by surprise!
These are possibly taken.

It's the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. What season do you want it to be where you live?

View 500 Answers

The question is different in finnish/english! The finnish question is what season do I prefer here, the english one which season I want it to be here. Yes, it matters!

I try to find the best sides of all seasons. I'm quite happy whichever season it is, though admit longing for summer during the lame, wet winter days.
Still I find it quite lovely that we have different seasons. How dull it would be to have the same weather all year?

In spring I like it when the snow melts, forming tiny streams of water, and everything starts to go green. The nature waking up. So many shades of green! Especially the first light green buds in the trees... The first warmish days when you take your bicycle out and decide to dress too lightly and as it grows colder towards the evening, your feet and fingers are freezing...

I sometimes get the feeling that there are prophets and seers, wise people among us should you only look around and listen. I also believe they are often misunderstood and ignored. Or their work is regarded as something different. Books, art, music. They are showing us the way (maybe even without knowing it themselves) but the people see it as a mere entertainment.

Am I making any sense? There should be a telepathic connection with everyone.
Or the Point-of-view gun they have in Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy! The one that when fired, it makes the target see your point of view. I'd love one of those.

Nudge, nudge.

Quotes of the day from Alan Watts.

Most civilized people are out of touch with reality
because they confuse the world as it is
with the world as they think about it,
talk about it
and describe it.

To have faith is to trust yourself to the water.
When you swim you don't grab hold of the water,
because if you do you will sink and drown.
Instead you relax, and float.

I'm confused!

When I was younger, I was always told to light a match towards myself.
Now, as I was lighting incense the other day, it read on the package: always light a match away from yourself.

So.. Which way is it? I can't light another match before I know!

[--] But now they are taking out the Mother's heart, they are digging up the ground and cutting out her liver and her guts. The Mother is being cut to pieces, stripped of everything. From their first landing they have been doing this. The Great Mother too has a mouth, eyes, and ears. They are cutting out her eyes and ears. If we lost an eye we would be sad. So the Mother too is sad, and she'll end, and the world ends if you do not stop digging and digging.

I think I might act like a hysterical teen girl tonight.
That doesn't happen too often.
Oh well, maybe I'll blend in.

Seriously though, we've been waiting for the gig a long time.

I had a dream last night. I was in Alaska with E. In the dream I had lived there when I was a child and had gone to this school/daycare which was called Snowcap (it made me think of flowers immediately). I saw myself as a little girl (as though this was actually something that has happened), playing in the floor wearing a helmet-like woolen hat which I knew was also called snowcap. Then we just walked around in the cold and snowy landscape and lived in a cabin.

Nothing much happened, but in the morning as I woke up, I was thinking Why have I forgotten all about Alaska--

The dream made me curious somewhat and I googled Snowcap. These are what I came up with.
What's your favorite? )

What Your Cute Monster Says About You

You have enthusiasm for almost everything you do in life. You have a super playful attitude.

You are curious about the world, and you love to learn. You rather figure people out than rush to judge them.

Your inner demon is pride. You can't help but have a big head sometimes.

People think you're cute because you're adventurous. You always bring some fun, which is super charming.

Rasputina: The New Zero
(because I have been listening to a lot of Rasputina lately)

He has agreed
To take me
To the Ice Hotel from the magazine

What we will need
Is a gleaming key
Made of ice as well
By the finest ice machine.

It's there that no one will stare
At your jaws and your long fur
The claws in your fingers.

It's in the past when the passers by laughed
At your strange way of speaking
Your batteries leaking
Oh no

Oh God no
They don't know
The New Zero.

Oh God no
They don't know
The New Zero.

Uniforms worn
So leisurely.
The reindeer skins
The privacy

How was he born?
He's asking me
Flapping his fins
Very impressively.

It's there that no one will stare
At your jaws and your long fur
The claws in your fingers.

It's in the past when the passers by laughed
At your strange way of speaking
Your batteries leaking
Oh no

Oh God no (He Has Agreed)
They don't know (To Take Me)
The New Zero. (To The Ice Hotel)

Oh God no (He Has Agreed)
They don't know (To Take Me)
The New Zero. (To The Ice Hotel)

I really don't care and neither does he
If this hotel melts into the sea
Polished and so rare, this is the way that we see.
The coldness helps, it's our favorite remedy.

Hardback or paperback?
Either. Paperbacks are easier.

Amazon or bookshop?
Both.

Bookmark or dog-ear?
Both. I don't really mind if my books look like someone's read them. If the book is someone else's, then definitely a bookmark.

Keep, throw away or sell?
Keep if it's good. Sell or give away if not. Never throw away.

Keep bookjacket or throw it away?
Keep, so it gets lost and flat and drifts around. It hardly finds its way back to the book it's from.

Read with bookjacket or without?
Without. That's the point it gets lost.

Short story or novel?
Either.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
Haven't read Lemony Snicket. So Potter.

Stop reading when you're tired or after finishing a chapter?
If I realize I'm reading the same part over and over again without understanding it, then I stop. Otherwise I prefer to finish the chapter.

“The night was cold and stormy” or “Once upon a time”?
Both?

Buy or borrow?
Both.

New or used?
Both.

Deciding what you buy: bestseller list, reviews, recommendations...?
Recommendations, interesting covers/back cover text...

Closed end or Cliffhanger?
Closed end. Though sometimes it's better to leave some things open.

Do you read in the morning, at noon or at night?
Any time. Usually I only have time in the evenings though.

Odd volume or series?
Odd volume.

Fave series?
Do Marion Zimmer Bradley's Avalon-books count as series?

Fave book of the ones you read last year?
Joanne Harris: Lollipop Shoes

What book are you currently reading?
Many.. Latest I started was Huxley's Brave New World.

Fave book of all times?
The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, Joanne Harris' books, Turn Off Your Mind, Henry & June by Anaïs Nin.

Fave authors?
Neil Gaiman, Anaïs Nin, Marion Zimmer Bradley Joanne Harris, Angela Carter...

Weird to be home again, at work.
And the new home! The cat is somewhat attached to it already I think, only she likes to sleep under the bath tub, against the wall. Maybe it's a warm spot, maybe it's just a place to hide from the devilish birds and squirrels that run back & forth the windowsills. Outside though.

Japan was lovely. So much to see... Everything so different; the people, the language, the buildings, the nature. The food! So lovely food. Noodles and sushi and tempura. And for some odd reason, crepes. Who would've thought you can put strawberries, whipped cream, strawberry sauce and cheese cake slice in a single crepe! Talk about exaggerating! It was delicious. Strawberry season officially opened. I also ate the best Margherita pizza I've ever had. Cheese and tomato are quite enough, when it comes to pizza. Apparently. It never occurred to me!

Otherwise we walked, walked, walked. Used the metro and once the shinkansen. It went quite fast!
The only disappointment was that the Ghibli museum was closed. So we made a trip to Mitaka (it wasn't too far though) but didn't see the museum. It was closed the whole time we were in Tokyo. Shame! Luckily there was a Ghibli shop near our hotel. And Mitaka was a really nice place ^__^

We found a huge manga / anime / artbook / hentai (censored! as all other adult material. apparently it's forbidden to show male/female genitalia...which is kind of odd. all private parts are blurred or covered.) / figure/ soundtrack shop in Shibya, called Mandarake. Found books by Yoshitaka Amano and Takato Yamamoto <3 Also gathered a list of interesting artists, such as Kashima. My attention was drawn to the title of his book: Delta of Venus, which is a book by Anaïs Nin also. Such beauty.

Pictures later, I don't just want to write a list of things we did, places we visited...

Looking forward to seeing The Fashion this friday. Also 30 Seconds to Mars next week and Björk! in july. And would someone please tell  me why Björk & Blondie are playing at the same day?! I'd have loved to see Debbie Harry too! No fair.

Life is a process of becoming,
a combination of states we have to go through.
Where people fail is that they wish
to elect a state and remain in it.
This is a kind of death.

Spring equinox.
Awfully cold it feels outside, maybe one of the coldest days this winter, and it's just a few degrees below zero. Sunny, though. The trees and bushes are filled with tiny green buds, some have even opened a bit (I think if the sun keeps shining like that, they might open a bit more) whereas if you go north, there's a lot of snow.

Four days off, which is nice. Don't have plans though, but maybe that's good too.

Have a beautiful one.
